Abstract

The Waldo Congregational Church was gathered in 1896 two years after being founded as the Montello Mission. In 1980 the Waldo Congregational Church, First Parish Congregational Church, South Congregational Church, and Porter Congregational Church merged to form the Christ Congregational Church. This collection contains the administrative and membership records of the church and includes record books, financial records, and vital member records.

Abstract The township of Brunswick was incorporated on May 3, 1717. Until 1747 the town was served by temporary missionary ministers. In 1747 the First Parish Church was actually split into two buildings, one following Congregational polity and the other following Presbyterian polity. In 1772 both groups agreed to follow Congregational polity and in 1808 both groups physically merged into a single meeting house. The Orthodox Congregational Church in Cambridge, Illinois was formed on February 9, 1851, in the house of Nelson Gaines, with eleven founding members. Sometime before 1880, the church changed its name to the First Congregational Church. The collection contains two volumes of records which include meeting minutes, church manuals, membership lists, baptismal records, and church ledgers.

Abstract Charlestown proper was founded in 1628 and formally settled on July 4, 1629. The First Church of Charlestown was gathered in 1632. The church’s third meeting house was destroyed during the Battle of Bunker Hill and the fourth meeting house was not constructed until 1783 after the American Revolutionary War had ended. Abstract The Union Park Congregational Church first gathered in 1860 as a mission of the First Congregational Church of Chicago. In 1869, construction began on a new gothic revival church building, designed by Gurdon P. Randall.
